How do I become closer to God once again? ?

There has just been a tragedy that happened andvi need my relationship with god to be stronger as fast as it can. I used to have a wonderful relationship with him but I let the world get in the way. What can I do to become closer to him once again? I've been praying... And reading th bible... But I still feel unchanged. I need him now more than ever. My faith is small and my heart is broken.
