Are these "real hip hop" fans actually worse than people who like anyone who's hot?
There are drones on BOTH sides. Some kids like anything that's popular on the radio. Like Wayne, Drake, Jeezy, Plies, Flo Ridah, Toot it and boot it guy, wiz kahlifa etc. Other HATE ANYTHING Popular unless it's approved by the "real hip hop" crowd. Which is mostly composed of die-hard Nas fans who are living in the 90's. I actually find the latter group to be worse. They have NO reason for hating the new artist they just do. They don't seem to understand that Hip Hop was invented in spite of elitist musicians. You think non hip hop fans respect hip hop as a genre? Sike. Look at any greatest songs of all time list and hip hop won't even be in the top 100. Yet now they think they can say what's hip hop and what's not. Just like rock fans will say what's music and whats not. Fact is everyone has a place in hip hop. Not everyone has to be lyrical. That's what makes hip hop so great. If everyone sounded the same it would suck. And don't say all mainstream sounds the same. There is more variation now than EVER. BTW I mess with mostly Jay, Nas, Kanye, Big, Big L, Cidy, Sigel, Free, Peedi, Rakim, Early Fab, Jada, SP, Drake, Lupe, Talib, Common, Krit, Game, Cole. I'm not a drone that's why I have a good mix. Even rappers I hate like Wayne, I have some verses from him that I like. I HATE soljah boy, but I like "Turnt up." Seemes like too many people are caught up with only liking "real hip hop" that they are ignoring some interesting songs. Freaking "These are the breaks" isn't lyrical but it's still a great song. Be yourself quit following the crowd.
